A new location for the winter market? Seemed like a cool idea, easy way to generate press, and hopefully attract some newbies to the Flea.<\/p>\n<p>But then I realized exactly WHAT this \u201cHanson Place\u201d was. Well, to put it lightly \u2026 it\u2019s the most beautiful building in Brooklyn. Honestly. [fight me on the comment boards if you disagree].<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s called the \u201cWilliamsburg Savings Bank.\u201d \u201cSavings? In BROOKLYN?!\u201d You may be asking.<\/p>\n<p>Yes. People save all over the country, no matter the locale. And way back in the day &#8211; we\u2019re talking like 1927, when the building was first erected at the intersection of Atlantic &amp; Flatbush Avenues &#8211; people liked to put their money in physical places. Well, they had to. ING Direct and all that jazz [NOTE: I\u2019m a bias customer of ING] didn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n<p>So this building, which remains the tallest in Brooklyn at 37 stories and \u201cfeatures a gilded cooper dome, carved lions, turtles and birds on the exterior; and a marble banking hall on the ground floor with 63-foot vaulted ceilings, 40-foot windows and elaborate mosaics; and two abandoned public observation decks with signage describing the Battle of Brooklyn,\u201d* is now the home of the winter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynflea.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brooklyn Flea market<\/a> now through the weekend of March 27-28.<\/p>\n<p>With more vendors, more food &amp; a new location \u2026 it\u2019s worth me checking out [and maybe selling at?] sometime in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>*stolen from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Williamsburgh_Savings_Bank_Tower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wikipedia<\/a>, along with picture below<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/0\/0d\/WBSB_tower_Schermerhorne_jeh.JPG\/391px-WBSB_tower_Schermerhorne_jeh.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"391\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I heard the news that the Brooklyn Flea was moving on over to Hanson Place \u2026 I didn\u2019t think anything of it.
